Spring nights, when the air is warm and the mosquitoes haven't started biting everything in sight, can sometimes remind me of those days back when all the neighborhood kids would converge at dusk to play hide 'n' go seek or red rover or if we were really hard up.... Tag. Since my sister is four years older than I (always has been, always will be), she was usually better at all those games than I was, at least based on the faint memory I have of them. Well, she's at it again. She's stirring up trouble in the blogosphere by continuing a meme started by somebody who tagged somebody else who tagged my sister who tagged me. I would hate to squelch such bloggy enthusiasm by not playing the game. So.....
Here's how it goes: I have to pick five of the "if I could be's" below and write what I'd do if that were my occupation. I then add another possible "if I could be" to the end of the list (guess which one I added). And then I tag three other bloggers to do the very same on their blogs.
The "questions:" If I could be a scientist...If I could be a farmer...If I could be a musician... If I could be a doctor... If I could be a painter... If I could be a gardener... If I could be a missionary... If I could be a chef... If I could be an architect... If I could be a linguist... If I could be a psychologist... If I could be a librarian... If I could be a lawyer... If I could be an inn-keeper... If I could be an athlete... If I could be a professor... If I could be a writer... If I could be a llama-rider...If I could be a mail carrier... If I could be a bonnie pirate... If I could be an astronaut... If I could be a world famous blogger... If I could be a justice on any one court in the world... If I could be a circus ringmaster… If I could be a professional knitter....
If I could be a gardener, my yard would be the most beautiful on the block. I'd have flowers blooming in every season, and every shrub and tree would be perfectly pruned and mulched. I would know the scientific names of every plant and exactly how much sun and shade and water and fertilizer each needed. Can you tell I just finished mowing my yard?!? Needless to say, I could use a real gardener around here!
If I could be a farmer, I'd grow lovely vegetables (except for corn, I don't like corn): green beans and onions and peas and beets and potatoes and tomatoes and cucumbers and lovely herbs of every sort. I'd grow strawberries and cantaloupes and a watermelon or two.
If I could be a painter, I'd paint landscapes and portraits and still-lifes and abstracts. I'd paint barns like Mr. Koons'. I'd be a little eccentric and live in a cabin in the mountains (a really well-stocked, very modern cabin not too far from civilization). Oh and people would actually buy my work. For lots of money.
If I could be a librarian, I would get to see all the new books first. I'd get to order the new books. I would read whenever I want to. I would be doing my job... and no one could fuss at me for reading instead of working!
If I could be a professor.... hey.. I am one! I can skip No. 5.
Ok. Meme done. I'm tagging the following: Jon at Personal Trainer (if he can do King of the Blogs, he can certainly carry this one off in his sleep), Melanie at Transparency (because she is a good sport and she knits!), and Michael Main (because he is funny). Have fun with it.
UPDATE: Jon and Melanie have played along. Michael has begged off... he's a "no-meme" kinda guy. Two out of three is pretty good!
